I've used Lightwave before, but only really just discovered it's full potential - been download meshes and playing around with things - currently encoding a 1000 frame video using the USS Enterprise (around 31 hour render!), and also been doing some odd ones for wallpapers, just messing so nothing that's been well planned, here's a couple I've done over the last few days.

It's a great program and once you get used to it, quite easy to use and has some very neat tools, I'm experimenting with lighting at the moment, to see what looks good and what works.

If anyone wants to Star Trek wallpaper using the Enterprise (1701, TV or Movie, -A or -E let me know I have those handy, plus a few other models) let me know I'd like to get more used to how it all works.

Cheers

I thought I was technical, but am I the only one that didn't understand a word of that?

Hi Jason,

31 hrs render :B This can be the problem! I had the same prolem recently when I was working on an old time move and wanted to put the aged film effects on it. I used after effects and that took over a day to render. I complained to a 3d animator about it and he said he uses an 8 machine render farm  This could be your next purchase!!!!!!

Any 3d stuff with the blue police box?

I used to use a Silicon Graphics machine when I tried 3D stuff, It took under 1 minute per frame at TV res!

Regards the after effect aged film thing what did you use plugins built into AE or an after market thing? I used one once (an after market plugin) and I'm damn sure it didn't take that long maybe 4:1 render time (on a 2ghz machine)! I'll try and find out what it was and let you know!

It was the bit about using the USS ENterprise to make a 1000 frame video and the bit about 1701, TV or Movie, -A or -E

Sorry bud,

I will post the completed video on here - hopefully should make more sense!

I meant that I have models of the Enterprise, NCC-1701 (TV), NCC-1701 (Movie), NCC-1701-A (Movie) and NCC-1701-E (Nemesis).

Next step is getting into making the models, but for the meantime I'm quite happy rendering downloaded ones :)

Did another last night ..... this one took around 30 mins to render just this frame, but I think it looks pretty neat.

I love lightwave... Modeled some news sets in it for my work a while back... I'd have to dig to find the renders of it.... How do we post pics?

Here are some things I've done...

I modeled/texured/lighted everything you see except for the female model. I got her from turbosquid.com. She would look better in these pics but she wasn't subpatched so she looks real rough.

Anyways.

First couple pics are the news set, main anchor desk...

Third is just a sample of a warehouse setting that I modeled for a class, dolly and some barells... I found an old barell at another job of mine, took pictures of it, did some photoshoping, and made the side/top textures... Dolly textures were also made from pictures of an actual dolly.

Fourth is an interview set...

Fifth is my guitar... I never finished the head/tuning knobs or the strings, just gotta get around to it someday.
