Hello,
I've just bought a Basson system 2nd hand but it doesn't come with a suitable stand. If you have something suitable, please let me know! Waiting for one so I can start balancing my system.

This holds 40kg ... I think it would be sufficient, not bad for £40 either, but this is only after a quickie search .... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=13478&criteria=light%20stand&doy=23m4
I'm looking for something similar too as my EFP didn't come with one :(

Thanks Jason, I just need to see if the top of the vertical column of the stand is open so that I can slot the balancing frame onto it (excuse not knowing the right terminology!)

Hi Chris
The speaker stand isn't open on top as standard. What you have to do is get the end cap off the stand by undoing the locking nut and drill a hole through the top. Get the DOCKING BRACKET remove the rear balancing stud near the hanger. Put a bolt through conecting the two parts together, use a large a washer on the bottom of the plastic cap as the plastic may split if you just use the bolt.
use as large a bolt as you can to go through the hole in the bracket. and use the largest washer you can to spread the load on the end cap!!!!
see attached pic.

I was going to PM Ant on this one, but might be useful for anyone else looking for similar.
I need a heavy duty light stand too - and have the usual Steadicam style docking system (which uses a 19mm stud?).
I've found these locally at CPC (www.cpc.co.uk) - and aren't badly priced, but I'm not sure what the situation with the stud is ... here's a few - Ant; could you throw any light on these whether they'd have the stud and be good enough?
Here's the order codes for the CPC website:
Lighting Stands
DP26184 (Max load 60kg)
ST00715 (Max load 40kg)
Speaker Stands
ST00345 (Max load 40kb)
ST00119 (Max load 50kg)
Cheers,
Jase

Yeah that was my next step ... I know the CPC ones are strong enough, just not the right type! I hate the C Stands though, the small legs, I don't trust anything that small ;)
Cheers :)

As far as a docking stand for the Basson is concerned. I just bought a PA speaker stand, took the rubber cap off the end to leave an open pipe then had a piece of aluminium stock machined to slip inside it with a large lip over the top and then a hole through the middle to take the docking bracket. Works perfectly.

Hi, can you tell me where you got the stand, and whether the aluminium piece can be bought? There's no way I can get this done myself - neither the time nor ability. As I understand, until I can fit the docking bracket to a stand I can't balance the Basson, hence can't use it.
Thanks,
Chris

I recommend the maplin jobbie jason used to have one and it was decent enough. I wish I could have included the one I was using now!

Thanks to everyone for looking into this for me - very kind of you. I'm going to see if we have anything suitable at work, then, if not, probably go for the Maplin job...

Hi Guys,
I should be very carefull with those cheap stand. Most of them are made in china. Most are aluminium and plastic! Would you trust a £30k camera on it? I work in the sound and lighting industry and we mostly use Power Drive stands. I use a ref44 for my rig.

Then choose a suitable top adaptor, like the ref 14/2 etc. These stands are quality and well worth the money?

I also use an lightstand. The ones the use for the follow spotlight. Those have usally legs that are more capable for heavy big lights and wont fall over. Also, one of those legs can be extended, so when your underground is not flat, you still have a save docking.
Make sence?
Would I need to get a stand for my V25 Job ?
I trust it would come with docking bracket

Hi Matt,
Yes you will need a stand and yes it does come with a nice docking bracket. I also use the manfrotto cine stand that Ant posted. It's solid. pricey but worth it.
John.
