Hey everyone,
I am planning to "ANT-a-rise" my Basson 925 sled to reduce weight. Before I go hacking the thing apart does anyone know how much the boat anchor weights ? I mean the metal box only. I don't want to do another $800 in work to reduce it by 4lbs.
Just checking ...
Thanks,
Steve

which box the one i've used or the one you'll be removing (the basson abortion sorry anamorphic base)? mine only weighed a tiny amount as it's alluminum but obviously i can't really weigh it now! but it's easily less than 0.25lbs

actually 4lbs saving on the base isn't too bad really! $800 in work holly cow think mine cost me about $2-300! what are you making yours out off, are you CNC machining or having made by somebody else or something?

Hey Ant,
Well I guess 4lbs is a lot. I was hoping to model mine after the MK Lite. I can get a small box for electronics and some rods from cavision and I bet it will weigh 3-4 lbs with out batts & monitor. I was just wondering if anyone knew the metal's weight. Hey ... maybe I'll ask Pablo. Yea Right!
The 925 is a beast. Is there any reason I may want to downgrade/strength my springs ?
Thanks for the reply,
Steve

Don't just copy a base inovate make it your own base! mine evolved a bit at a time a tweek here a tweek there!
Unscrew your base stick it your bathroom scales then you'll know the weight!

Yeah, don't copy it exactly.
I'm making a base system at the moment, and I've taken a few ideas from the mk-v lite base, but I'm adapting it.
Theres no point copying it exactly, wheres the fun in that? :D

Hi Steve
I had a Basson 800 as a starter kit but spent a lot of time, energy and a couple of hundred dollars making it useable, not including the 3rd party stuff I upgraded to. When I told Pablo about my mods and said he could use them if he wanted, he said it would raise the price of the rig too much and he'd be less competitive.
Here are the pics of what I did. If you want more details, contact me directly and I'll gladly explain what and why.
Hopefully they'll be helpful.
Cheers

Really nice mod you got there Steve. Well done. I was wondering if there is anything significant in the base of the sled? Is it just an empty shell with a couple of wires? Ant, maybe you know.

Hi Charles
The bottom housing still just contains the wiring and now the mechanism for the dual IDX NP-1 holder to slide fore and aft for dynamic balancing. The housing is so tall because it's called an anamorphic base and the post slides up and down into it.

Hey Norbert,
I remember wanting to bid on the rig you had on eBay. I liked the mods. Well I bought the 925 new from you know who and from the first time I flew the thing I was way under impressed. I don't know what to do. I think I'm going to replace the whole box with a rod system & some small eletronix. It is just plain too heavy. I will shoot some shots of my Mod'ed j box, battery system and other stuff before I saw it off, but it is just too heavy in it's state right now ... Thanks for the offers everyone.
PS Ant ... sell me your bottom stage ... *smile*... but really
See yea,
Steve

Hi Steve
The weight of all the Basson stuff is really bad which I didn't realize how bad until I got my Rig Engineering Silver Spring arm. I took it orver to a friend who has a Basson arm and we did a weigh in. The Basson was more than twice as heavey! That's the price you pay when you don't pay the price! Ha-ha!:B
Basson gear can be made workable, it's just a matter of time, a little money but mainly on how handy you are with tools as I did a lot of the mods myself and just left the big or complicated things for the machine shop to do.
Good luck with it.
Cheers
Norbert
