Hi guys,

My brother just finished my showreel for 2005, its just a small impression of some of the stuff i did this year. Any feedback would be great.

Jason, can you check if i did it correct on that page?

Its on my site www.thecrew.nl under DEMO

Hi

You do a lot of music vids don't you!

Are they the main bulk of your work? Do you do other stuff drama etc or was there nothing really interesting enough to put in such a fast paced demo reel.

There is some really amazing stuff in there.

I do a lot of other stuff too, but its not easy to get your hands on the material. This is just a small part of my work, and yes, a lot of music:D and one commercial. I hope to collect some stuff for 2006 with the rest. Depends on the producers, the hate extra work

Hi Job,

Its always hard to get hold of the footage you have shot. Even if they promise you a copy of the master tape with your bits on it, it never comes. One good way is to make your own recording by strapping the smallest miniDV cam with analogue in, to the base of your rig and take a tap off the monitor feed.

I know, i shoot for 9 years on the steadicam now, and i never botherd to get some footage. My fault too. But this is a start. Music videos are easy to get. Just tape Mtv ore tmf and hopla, there the are:D There is one commercial in there ( dancing people shooting with minidv ) i shot on HD. The where kind to send me a copy. Now i am gonna go for another demo with the drama stuff.

2006 Demo:D

But i am happy with this one already

I wish I had as much as you have in yours!! I've done a few jobs, and will hopefully see the results, but that's debatable.

I'm certainly in a better position now to get more work, and hopefully less Student type shoots, but I can't honestly say what will happen, I love the Steadicam industry and hope that I'll be flying for a long time to come - and get a decent demo reel soon!!!

I would take the advice of taping it separately when you shoot it - you can get an MPEG4 recorder damn cheap now, so you can just dump it straight to your pc, that might be worth a try - ? At least you will have anything you shoot.

Looks really good Job. Just a little costructive criticism though. Shorten the "Thursday's Child" segment. Used to get a lot of demo tapes through work to screen and always found myself with my finger on the fast forward button with any long bits. And I found myself looking to do the same there. You'll find most producers are in that same mind set when it comes to demo reels. Anything over about 2 minutes used to get turned off. Most just don't have the time to look at them all.

Hope this helps. It has good pace but just loses it's momentum with such a long segment of the slowest musical piece.

Cheers,

Martin

There's also a flash frame in the last segment. At 4'10".
Sorry.

Some great stuff there Job. You are one of my favorite operators. ;) I have a lot to learn from you. Music video is also my forte. I like it and planning on getting into that part of the business very soon, so I'm gonna need a few tips from you. Hell I want to some moves from you man. :)

BTW, do you have your home number where I can reach you. I want to talk to you on some things I'm coming up with.

Hi all,
it depends what kind of work you want to represent. For operating only, like I do it is totally OK to put video-assist footage on the reel. I've done it on my reel. Operating is about framing not lighting and color correction.
You can have a look at http://www.steadicam-ops.com/database/soaDetailList.php?detailID=190

Merry Christmas an a Happy New Year to all of you

Hi Job,

Nice demo.., to bad the audio is not equal like the volume.. (sound of chipz for example)... but hey, the Steadi work is were the demo is all about !!.:)

It now seems like it will be almost to difficult to get any work arround here as long as you live in the Netherlands.., maybe it's time to move somewhere else ????:B

But once again, very nice demo !

Question : are you attached with gaffer tape to the national broadcast company 'De Tros'.. ??

Best whishes btw,

Erik

Your right, thats why i need to use an onboard recorder. Most of the music stuff is fast cutting. Commercial and drama most of the time longer stuff. Did a christmasconcert last week with a lot of long 30 sec walks. I am gonna tape it from television. Becose getting the stuff from the producers is a pain.

The stuff in the demo is nice, but there where parts inthere with longer steadicamwork. My brother made this for me so, ah well.

I am happy with it though, as i am doing steadicam and dop a lot of them too. Little bit double i know.

Thanks for the comments guys
