Good stuff

I would love a wideangle but the are really expensive for my camera. I'll probably get a redeye or something.

What camera is it for?

Just incase you don't know what a redeye is!

http://www.collinscraft.com/

They are amazing the quality of the image is perfect. The only downside is you can't zoom with it on.

hi,
the wide angle is for my dsr-370, maybe i´ll get a dsr-390 someday.

and if you want a wide angle adapter, just measure your lens out, i have one here to sell.
i bought that also through ebay but it didnt fit my lens.

hi folks,
so now i have a (hopefully) little problem:

its in good condition and i took it, didnt want to discuss with the guy.
but....

i thought, that 1/2" is normed, so it will fit all 1/2" cams.
thats (in this case) not true.
the guy said, it was mounted on a jvc gy - dv 500 and it worked til last week, but it doesnt fit on my sony dsr370, anyway, i bought it.
the problem is: the bayonet is a little different, just 1- 2 milimeters in the distance to the lens and 1-2 mm minus on the three pieces that are outstanding on the bayonet.
so its not really fixed and you can turn it, and i had no way to test it or even sharpen it.

i bought it now because its in very good condition and have the hope that there is an adapter available or maybe a bayonet for different brands to change.....

http://i6.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/f5/47/ea_0.JPG

as you can see, its just this part mounted with a few screws, i hope that there is another one available for sony.

could you ask your dealer or do you have another idea?

thx knacki

Hi

Ooooohhh Crap!

I hadn't realised when looking at the ebay advert it had been used on a JVC cam or I would have tould you it won't fit on sony!

JVC and Panasonic share a standard 1/2inch mount (they did that may have changed now). Sony use as far as I can tell a B4 mount on all there cameras the only difference being that the image circle on the 1/2 inch lenses isn't as big but you can use the 2/3 lenses on the 1/2 cams. This is not certain knowledge though it's based on my 2/3 lens fitting on a 1/2 DXC3000!

You may be able to get some help or answers from the German broadcast and communications division:-

Canon Deutschland
Telephone
+49 (0)2154-495490

Email
dirk.fobker@canon.de

They may be able to supply a new bayonet ring for the lens but it may be expensive!
Adaptors for converting the lens you have to a sony don't exist. They only other option is to get a machinist to make an adaptor for you. The only one I can think of at the moment who may be able to help is available at this website:-

http://www.lesbosher.co.uk/

But before you go for either of these routes check that you lens zoom control etc connects to your camera and works correctly! I have a horrible feeling they are wired different!

Hope this helps

Hi Ant,
thanks very much for your answer and the tel.nr.
talked to the guy and there is just sony with a different mount :Y:

so there are two possibilities at the moment:
1. i can resell the lens but he said its a very good broadcast lens, just a little older.
2. i could buy the new jvc 5000, because that would be cheaper and easier than to buy a wideangle that fits the sony.

i have to think about it and tell you,

Hi

Can you not change the mount on the Lens?

How is you own built steadicam coming along? Have you sold your basson yet?

Ant

no, there is no adapter because half of the lens is different.

my own one has to wait until i sell the basson.

i first wanted to test the basson with a wide angle :$

and the main reason is: I AM SO LAZY :A:

ant, did you measure the out-diameter of your lens? maybe my wide angle adapter fits on yours?

My camera is on loan to my old college at the moment! I can't recall if the lens is 77mm or 82mm! I think it's 77mm though!

Hi Knacki / Ant

Sorry to hear about the lens fitment problems. If you currently have a DSR370, I wouldn't get a Dv5000. I currently have a DV500 as well as a DRS500. The DSR cam is far superior to the DV500. Plus you have DVCAM on the DSR. The DV5000 only does DV.

As you say, your lens can make a whole load of difference to the quality of your picture. I am told that if you were to fit a £12,000 like http://www.canon.com/bctv/products/j11ax-d.html
your camera would be like a whole new thing, with a noticably better picture. I asked my business partner about it once, who has a degree in physics. He explained about the quaility of the lens elements etc. and the fact that each element could cause comb filtering to a certain degree, depending on its quality, and cause loss of high frequency, that would show up as a in loss fine detail. This can also be true with a Digibeta cam. You not only have the slightly increased quality of the recording system, but someone has had the forthought to get a decent lens. It also depends on wheather you are going to broadcast your material. Broadcasting looses a lot of the pictures fine detail. You could shoot somthing on say a Digibeta, and a XM2. The footage would look similar when viewed on a decent monitor, but if you were to broadcast it, it would be a different story!

thanks for the tip but thats too expensive for me.
i tried it out yesterday with a dv500 and the picture was not only wider but better colors and more beauty, cant explain why but the people there didnt believe the difference.
and of course i first would have a closer look to the dv5000 but its another possibility.
and i work just for a small private tv and a some industrials ie. movies for exhibitions.
so dv or dvcam is good enough.
the other camera guy working for the tv station only owns a dsr250 and its good enough for them (not for me).

Hi,

Generally, the JVC picture is 'warmer' than the Sony, I think. I like the JVC picture very much. But on the whole, over here, Sony is considered better. Plus if you are on a multi cam shoot, and the other guys have sonys your fottage has to be graded in? to match. Plus, over here, pros like DVcam over straight DV as its faster tape speed makes it more secure - less prone to drop outs? But, if you have that superior lens with a JVC mount, it would probably sway me. Have you managed to compare the DV500 with you lens and say the standard Fuji?

Here is a couple of articles about the DV500 / 5000

http://www.abcdv.com/article/view/68
http://www.abcdv.com/article/view/27

Take note about the standard mic - it is crap, with loads of hiss. I use a K6/ME66 on mine, but you need to buy the extra mic bracket - about £100. and the tape loading is a bugger. Also, on the DV5000 they have lost a rear mic socket, to save money!!!! so, if you need to connect to your sound guy in stereo, one of the channels has to connected at the front!!, the LCD is very usefull on the 5000 though. One article also mensions lens!

Let me know what you do? - I am very happy with my DV500, its just not 16:9

ok, i did it.

i bought the 5000 in bundle with the 3000 editing recorder and new sachtler light and some other stuff like the portabrace hiker and new batteries and charger and....and....and.....just 7900€

i´ll get it on thursday, cant wait :)

its a real good working cam, much better than the sony, incredible lightsensitive......

and with the wide angle, perfect :H:

Hi,

Well done, and just in time for a nice little christmas present to yourself!!!!! Sound Like a great deal cost wise too!

What batteries are you getting? I swapped the NP1 box on the back of mine, for a sony plate, and am using Swit NiMH 115W S-5115's they will run the cam for about 5hrs! The NP1's only ran for about 1hr.

Hi

Thanks for the pointer! However for the amount of use i'd get from it the money spent would be too much. I'll probably get a wideangle adaptor or hire lenses when needed like I have been doing.

Thanks anyway
Ant
