View Full Version : Expanding the forum

In view of the fact it's been quiet around here, just wondering if it's worth expanding the forum for other topics .. perhaps other rigs (Steadicam/Glidecam etc), or add things non-Steadicam related.
Would be nice to get some new members on board, we're not had any join for quite a while now, just want to see our little community grow.
....just an idea.

sorry, that i dont post so much!
first i have my problems to translate things like "isoelastic" to german, second iīm working on my plans, third i have a job......
my project will take much longer then i thought, but not because of i was wrong, just because of i decided to do it as good as i could imagine, not to make a copy of bassonsteady, that would be cheap!
if you begin planning and try to get prices for cnc-quality, then its getting expensive, you know that, but its the only way to get perfect parts.
some parts i wanna make out of carbon, i bought more than 20 kilos of carbonfiber 4 weeks ago, but i dont even have a garage or something else to work with it.
its a step by step procedure, but i learned so much from you and your links, that i dont give up.
btw:
today i worked with this really bad, bad, bad piece of shit named basson steady i bought trying to make pics for a teaser/jingle for the local basketballgroup, and it was funny!
it hadnīt to be straight, it hadnīt to be slow........., it had to be much movement, and i had to run along the line, so it was ok to have it ;)
so, ok, gn8

Hi jason/knacki
I would like to see a seperate wing for mods on all rigs that would be cool!
It just really needs to get more widely known about most Basson owners don't know about this site which is a shame! Why don't basson mention us? Also everybody pass the word to anybody else who may be interested in a steadi tpe rig about this site!
Knacki 20 kilos of carbon fibre...! Carbon fibre=lightweight so 20kg must be a shit load!!!! also what is it in raw fibre, pre preg sheets or cloth? are you planning on making the arm out of carbon fibre? if so be carefull as steadicam tried once and it failed big time they always break at the bearing points on the bones!

Hi Jason,
I was only thinking about this the other day. Add some sections for other film making related stuff; cams, lighting, sound, grip, editing, special FX, other home made stuff. Although I have a Steady (If you can call it that!!!) I only use it on rare occasions (mainly coz its been in bits for months - plent to post on the mods section). I am out filming 2 or three times a month so have plenty to post on general filming activities. What about a general filming gallery? I can answer questions on most filming related subjects as I am a Director of several companies related to sound & lighting, and supply of equipment to education for media studies etc. (mainly PC based edit suites)

Done!

Hey Jon,
Sounds like a good idea, if you give me an idea of what subforums to use (ie lighting, grip etc) I will create a forum here for those.
Will be nice to be able to have more to read on the forum, specially non-steadi related!

if i had more practice in english i could also help because i am working 5 days a week on the camera or the cuttingroom.
maybe i will do a general forum in german language again (i had one til last year) and maybe we could link each other?
my site is under construction at the moment, but to get new members or to be found by google its necessary to be linked on much sites ;-)

Hi Jon
I wish i'd have known about you being a supplier to educational facilities! my old college has just spent out on loads of new gear:-
9 Avids
1 Dolby digital mixing system
1 Allen & Heath sound desk
2 Autocue units
30 Channel dimmer system and dmx lighting desk
1 Grass valley 20 channel vision mixer
1 Aston character generator
3 Panasonic DVX100
4 Sennheiser radio mic systems
plus loads of other stuff I can't recall
You probably could have done them a good deal if you could have supplied most of that!

Hi Ant,
Yeh, could have supplied all of that, and installed it! We generally take class rooms, or newly built spaces and convert them into studio's, edit suites etc. installing lighting grids / rigs, wall drapes, sound proofing etc.
Great fun!
